Mammalian Neuronal Cell Culture Researcher

The Jorgensen lab is looking for someone with mammalian neuron cell culture experience to spearhead a project studying the molecular basis of neurotransmission using CRISPR prime editing, and reprogramming of mouse ES cells to induced neurons.

The lab is a leader in the molecular genetics of synaptic transmission, as well as ultrastructural and super-resolution imaging of neuron structure. Our pioneering work has contributed to a spin-off commercial super-resolution microscope, as well as equipment enabling time-resolved electron microscopy.

Salt Lake City

Some might know it for the world-class skiing. Others might think of it as the world headquarters of a large religious group. In any case, Salt Lake City provides a perfect intersection of urban and outdoor recreational amenities. Many people are surprised by the number of bars, breweries, restaurants, and coffee shops. Chocolate lovers might already know that Utah is a hub of bean to bar manufacture. Its geographic location in the central US mean that many touring bands will stop in to one of the music venues. It has major league basketball and soccer teams, plus minor league AAA baseball and ECHL hockey. Supporting the classical arts, SLC has a symphony, opera, nearby Tony Award-winning Shakespeare Festival, and one of the oldest ballet companies in the west. Many are surprised that SLC is known as LGBTQ friendly,

No matter who you are, SLC will find a way to get you outdoors. Of course the nearby Wasatch mountains on the east side of town provide rock climbing, hiking, and skiing within a forty minute drive. There are mountain biking trails connected to local neighborhoods, and 170 miles of connected, mostly-off-road paved road bike trails. Uniquely, it is centrally located to twelve national parks within an easy day’s drive. On the west and north side of town, there’s desert stargazing, Olympic venues, or self-guided fossil hunting.
